Position: Full-time, Payroll & HR Clerk
Location: Honolulu, HI
Industry: Maritime
Schedule: Monday through Friday from 7:00 am to 3:30 pm
Pay: $24.00 – $28.00 per hour (depends on experience)

The Payroll & HR Clerk will be responsible for processing all aspects of weekly payroll for employees and provides administrative and clerical support to the Human Resources department. The ideal candidate is organized, detail-oriented, has excellent interpersonal skills, and is able to work in a face-paced environment.
Job Duties:
- Process and audit manual timecards and payroll data to ensure compliance with company policies, union contracts, and federal/state regulations.
- Maintain payroll records, verify calculations (e.g., taxes, deductions, retroactive pay), and prepare special payments as needed.
- Resolve payroll discrepancies, respond to employee inquiries, and communicate effectively with departments regarding payroll matters.
- Prepare union reports, stop payments, direct deposit reversals, and other payroll adjustments in accordance with regulatory requirements.
- Maintain payroll databases and ensure accuracy of employee status changes, tax withholdings, benefit deductions, and accruals.
- Support HR team with administrative tasks and uphold safety, confidentiality, and professionalism in all responsibilities.
Job Requirements:
- High School Diploma (or equivalent)
- Bachelor’s degree in business administration or related field, preferred
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, especially Excel; ability to learn new software applications.
- High level of confidentiality and professionalism with experience handling sensitive payroll and employee information.
- Understanding of payroll processes and systems, preferably in a union environment; experience with SAGE 300 or other payroll software is a plus.
- Knowledge of state and federal payroll regulations and prior experience in payroll processing, data entry, and clerical functions.
