Remedy Staffing is hiring Lab Technicians for a growing medical supply manufacturer in Rush, NY!
Summary: The purpose of the Culture lab is to verify that the customers sterilizers are working accordingly through the process of sterilizing a spore strip that is comprised of two different type of bacterial spores. Spore strips are comprised of two bacterial spores:
• Geobacillus stearothermophilus (ATTC 7953): Is used to monitor both Steam and Chemical Vapor sterilization modalities. These bacterial spores are incubated at 55-60oC.
• Bacillus atrophaeus (ATTC 9372): Is used to monitor both Dry Heat and EO (Ethylene Oxide) sterilization modalities. These bacterial spores are incubated at 30-39oC.
The strips are transferred into a media tube that that contains a media that acts as a visual indicator. The media contains bromocresol purple which acts as a pH indicator, that changes color depending upon the change in pH due to bacterial growth. If there is bacterial growth within the media tube, the media will change from a purple color to a bright yellow color to signal the presence of bacteria.
