Recreation Leader                     Salary Range:     $12.20- $13.00 Hourly


We are seeking and enthusiastic and innovative Recreation Leader to assist with the operations of a Summer Program in Fort Myers. This position monitors and interacts with children and adults; is responsible for assisting in administration, scheduling, and operation.  Responsibilities may include but are not limited to, providing direction to staff, assisting with planning and managing special events, monitoring of participants, providing instruction to participants, cash handling and daily reporting, excellent communication skills, processing of registrations, miscellaneous daily paper work, general clean up and custodial duties. 


Directs non-supervisory employees. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the Program policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include planning, assigning, and directing work, addressing complaints and resolving problems


  • Monitor, instruct and interact with children in a group setting
  • Assist with planning and managing daily activities.
  • Assist with onsite sports programs including but not limited to, set up and take down of sporting equipment.
  • Responsible for security and closing building.
  • Prepare and maintain records and reports
  • Responsible for cash handling, as needed.
  • Perform custodial duties, as needed.
  • This position requires regular and reliable attendance and the employee’s physical presence at the workplace.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Assist with planning and managing after school programs, out-of-school programs and athletic programs for children and adults.
  • Monitor attendance at games and tournaments; prepare incident reports; provide assistance where needed.
  • Provide information and instruction to clients with respect to athletic fields and programs



High school diploma or GED.

Two (2) years of experience in a related field; or an equivalent combination of education, experience, and/or training that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Must be at least 18 years of age.


  • Able to speak clearly and persuasively in positive or negative situations.
  • Skilled to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Ability to operate necessary equipment including but not limited to, ice resurfacing equipment, ice skate sharpener and sporting equipment, computer, telephone, facsimile machine and copier.
  • Skill to make sound judgment.
  • Ability to lift and rescue swimmers who are in need of assistance
  • Ability to work in heat, humidity, wetness, and around noise, fumes and odors


Must obtain CPR, AED and First Aid Training Certification within twelve months of hire date.

When assigned to working with Youth, must meet the Department of Children and Families (DCF) requirements and inspections.
