Job Title:           Die Design Engineer

Reports to:        Die Manager

Summary: Responsible for working closely with internal and external customers to design and engineer dies and tooling optimization. Model tooling in Semines Nx 8, 8.5, work closely with programmers on ability to machine parts. Software/programs ME10, Axapta, Flex flow, Single bearing. Understanding of tool steels, extrusion press, and material flows.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide die designs and necessary support tooling designs
  • Work with programmers on manufacturing capabilities
  • Review first run rates and make design changes as needed
  • Work closely with Extrusion to improve die performance, use performance history and continually work to improve the die design programs
  • Accurately interpret customers/per-sale requests.  Work with appropriate personnel to resolve all discrepancies and/or deviations prior to manufacturing.  Work closely with Engineering team and internal and external customers to provide best possible designs
  • Work to continually improve quality, eliminate waste and meet customer demands
  • Other duties as assigned

Job Location: Portland, OR

Shift: Full Time - Day Shift

Compensation: $60,000.00 to $80,000.00 annually depending on experience.

Job Requirements

  • Must be able to understand and deliver basic commands in English
  • Must have basic math skills, use a calculator and read a tape measure
  • Must be able to work cohesively in a team environment
  • Experience with ME10, AutoCad, NX, Unigraphics, Solidworks, experience in die manufacturing, including hollow die design and feasibility, extrusion press characteristic and metal flow
  • Ability to quickly analyze technical challenges, develop functional solutions and clearly communicate

Special skills required to perform job (machines, tools, equipment):

  • Working knowledge of MS Office Suite

Environment/Health/Safety/Housekeeping:

  • Understands that performing job tasks in a safe manner is the highest priority
  • Has read and understands department JSAs
  • Adheres to all safety rules, guidelines and wears appropriate PPE when required
  • Fills out “near miss” paperwork on any unsafe condition or action and reports any unsafe condition or act immediately to supervisor or EHS department
  • Responsible for housekeeping and 5S in his or her respective areas of work or areas as directed by the department supervisor
  • Cooperates and contributes to the creation of a safe, secure and healthy working environment and to the achievement of the company’s environmental obligations and goals

Education required:  Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Metallurgy or related field or equivalent experience or an equivalent combination of education and applicable experience
