Position Summary

Plans, directs, and implements organization safety programs to ensure safe, healthy, and accident-free work
environment and full compliance with environmental laws and regulations by performing the following duties personally.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following: (Other duties may be

1. Plans and implements safety and environmental policies and procedures in compliance with federal
Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regulations.

2. Plans and implements programs to train managers and employees in work site safety practices including
ergonomics program, waste management, fire prevention, and correct handling techniques for chemicals, equipment, and other materials.

3. Prepares studies and analyses of industrial accident causes and hazards to health for use by company
personnel and outside agencies.

4. Inspects organization facilities to detect existing or potential accident and health hazards,
determines corrective or preventive measures where indicated, and follows up to ensure measures have been implemented.

5. Leads the investigation of accidents and injuries and cooperates in the preparation of material and
evidence for organization use in hearings, lawsuits, and insurance investigations.

6. Serves as Company representative in a variety of audit processes including OSHA,
Insurance, and Fire Department.

7. Uses Eight Step Problem Solving process to analyze all accidents in the facility.

8. Compiles and help to submit safety and environmental reports required by regulatory agencies such as, OSHA and any other federal agency.

9. Assesses the environmental risk of activities and advises management on environmental impact.

10. Confers with departmental supervisors, manufacturing representatives, and regulatory agency staff to
discuss problems, to develop tests to detect hazardous leaks, and to design plans to monitor equipment and safety programs.

11. Interprets data and observations to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and industry
guidelines and advises management accordingly.

12. Prepares reports such as environmental monitoring operation report and shipping reports for review by
administrative personnel and submission to regulatory agency, if needed.

13. Maintains working knowledge of the new technologies developed by the industry and government and implements use of these in the facilities as necessary.

14. Represents the organization in community or industry safety groups and programs.

15. Maintains safety and environmental files and records in accordance to government requirements. 

16. Develops ergonomic teams per plant and ergonomic studies for each work station.

Supervisory Responsibilities

 Coordinates external consulting services required. Carries out responsibilities in
accordance with company policies and applicable Federal laws.. Also, serves as a
technical resource in the areas under his responsibility (Environmental, Safety).

Education and/or Experience

Engineering degree from a recognized college or university. A minimum of four years of
related experience in the Safety and Environmental function or equivalent
combination of education and experience.

Language Skills

Ability to read, analyze and interpreted scientific or technical journals, financial
reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries from company management
or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies. Ability to write business /
technical reports or articles in English. Ability to effectively present
information to top management, public groups, clients or visits to the plant.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical
inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions,
percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in
mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete

Computer Skills

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Internet
software; Spreadsheet (Excel) software, Word Processing, and presentation
(PowerPoint) software.

Other Skills and Abilities

  • Excellent communications skills (English/ Spanish)
  •  Computer literate including use of PowerPoint, Excel, Word and Internet
  •  Knowledge of Eight Step Problem Solving process

Other Qualifications

  •  Engineering Degree from accredited institution or 3 yrs of experience in the field
